Hyderabad Police Seize Millions in Cash, Gold, and Liquor as Election Code Comes Into Force

Hyderabad, Oct 11: The Hyderabad police have been on an extensive crackdown since Monday, following the enforcement of the election code of conduct for the upcoming November 30 Assembly elections in Telangana. Their operations have resulted in the seizure of a substantial amount of assets.

Since the Election Commission of India announced the poll schedule, the police have confiscated Rs 5.1 crore in cash, over 7 kg of gold worth Rs 4.2 crore, and 110 liters of liquor. Additionally, they’ve also seized 7.706 kg of gold valued at Rs 4.2 crore, 11.700 kg of silver worth Rs 8.77 lakh, and 2 kg of ganja. Alongside these, 23 mobile phones and 43 quintals of PDS rice have been confiscated.

The police have stated their unwavering commitment to ensuring a free, fair, and peaceful election and have intensified their efforts against illicit money, drugs, liquor, freebies, and other enticements. Various police units, including local police, flying squad teams, and the commissioner’s task force, are diligently monitoring and maintaining strict vigilance round the clock.

City Police Commissioner C.V. Anand conducted a video conference to assess preparedness and communicate essential guidelines to all staff officers. He emphasized the importance of adhering to established procedures, timely reporting, vigilant monitoring, and comprehensive training for the police force. He also urged police officers to hold meetings with political parties at various levels, activate election cells, and plan for the security of polling stations.

Anand stressed the need to prevent political party intersections during campaigns, manage route planning, and meticulously allocate time slots to avoid untoward incidents. He further directed the surrender of all licensed firearms and a halt to the issuance of new licenses until after the polls. Static surveillance teams and flying squads are set to intensify their operations, with an increase in the number of inter-commissionerate checkposts.

The meeting also addressed the execution of non-bailable warrants, monitoring of social media platforms, surveillance on hawala operators, and other operational matters to ensure a smooth electoral process.
