Breaking News: Kaleswaram Dam Safety Under Scrutiny
In a sensational revelation, the Dam Safety Authority has released a report shedding light on the precarious state of the Kaleswaram barrage. The report points out serious flaws in the planning and design of the structure, raising concerns about its stability.
The damning findings indicate that the entire barrage may need to be dismantled and rebuilt from the ground up to ensure the safety of the region. Additionally, Annaram and Sundilla barrages could face similar issues, further exacerbating the situation.

The report attributes the barrage’s gradual weakening to the negligence of dam managers, warning that a potential failure could have catastrophic consequences for both people’s lives and the economy.
As a result of these alarming revelations, it is unlikely that the barrage will be operational until these critical issues are fully addressed. The collapse of the Madigadda barrage pillars is cited as a prime example of the consequences of poor planning, design, quality control, and operation maintenance.
Furthermore, the weakening of pillars is attributed to erosion of sand beneath the foundation, the low strength capacity of the foundation material, and the deterioration of concrete piles under the barrage’s load.
The Dam Safety Authority has expressed frustration with the state government’s lack of transparency, as requested details have been incomplete. The government has been urged to provide comprehensive data by October 29, 2023, failing which it will be deemed that the necessary tests and studies for the barrage’s construction have not been conducted.
