New Delhi, Nov 21: Microsoft unveiled enhanced features for Outlook Lite, introducing SMS support for users in India. The updated version of Outlook Lite incorporates support for Indian vernacular languages, catering to diverse linguistic preferences. Users can now benefit from voice typing, transliteration, and reading emails in regional languages, making email communication more accessible and personalized.
Rajiv Kumar, MD of Microsoft India Development Centre and Corporate Vice President of Microsoft’s Experiences and Devices, India Group, emphasized the inclusive nature of Outlook Lite. The platform allows users to dictate emails in Hindi, type emails in Tamil with automatic conversion to English, or read emails in Gujarati, among other language capabilities. Currently supporting five Indian languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, and Gujarati, Outlook Lite plans to expand its language repertoire in the future to encompass more languages and dialects.
The addition of SMS support in Outlook Lite streamlines the consumption of transactional and promotional information. The smart inbox categorizes messages, such as transactions, promotions, and personal communications, providing users with a unified view. This feature also serves as a reminder for essential appointments, travel bookings, bill payments, and gas bookings, helping users manage crucial information efficiently.
In the coming updates, Outlook Lite aims to introduce language translation for SMS, allowing users to read messages in their preferred language or seamlessly switch between languages with a single tap.
