San Francisco, December 1: Microsoft is introducing an “energy saver” mode for Windows 11 Insiders, enhancing the existing battery saver option and extending its functionality beyond laptops to desktop computers.
In the latest build (Build 26002), Microsoft announced the addition of the energy saver mode, providing users with an easy way to extend battery life and reduce energy consumption while making a trade-off in system performance. Unlike the battery saver, this new mode is not exclusive to laptops, allowing users to optimize energy usage on desktop computers as well.
Users can toggle the energy saver mode on and off via Quick Settings in the system tray or configure it to run automatically when the device reaches a specific battery percentage. Microsoft highlighted that while optimized for extending battery life, the energy saver mode will be available even when PCs are plugged in, catering to those seeking to conserve energy consistently.
This new feature is currently rolling out to Windows 11 Insiders in the Canary channel.
In a related development, Microsoft is extending the AI-powered Copilot feature, initially exclusive to Windows 11, to Windows 10 users. To access Copilot on Windows 10 Home or Pro, users with eligible devices need to install a Release Preview build and be part of the Windows Insider tester program.
