New Delhi, August 21, 2026: BMW India on Friday unveiled the BMW i5 Long Wheelbase, its first locally manufactured electric sedan in India, and opened bookings for the luxury electric vehicle through its dealer network.
The BMW i5 Long Wheelbase will be manufactured at the BMW Group Plant Chennai, making it the company’s second electric BMW model to be produced in India and its first locally manufactured electric sedan in the country.
The launch comes as luxury automakers step up their focus on India’s rapidly expanding premium electric vehicle segment.
BMW i5 LWB: Key Specifications
The new BMW i5 Long Wheelbase measures 5,175 mm in length, 2,156 mm in width and 1,520 mm in height, making it one of the largest and longest sedans in its segment.
With a 3,105 mm wheelbase, the electric sedan offers increased rear-seat space and is designed to provide a high level of comfort for passengers.
The i5 Long Wheelbase is powered by an electric motor producing 268 hp, enabling it to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 6.7 seconds.
It comes equipped with an 81.6 kWh high-voltage battery, offering a claimed driving range of up to 669 km on a single charge under the MIDC testing cycle.
Warranty and Service Packages
BMW India is offering the i5 Long Wheelbase with a standard two-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, along with two years of roadside assistance.
Service packages begin at three years or 40,000 km and can be extended up to 10 years or 1,00,000 km. The vehicle warranty can also be extended for up to 10 years.
BMW Group India’s financial services arm also offers customised financing options through its BMW Smart Finance programme, including flexible EMIs, reduced interest rates on selected models, assured buy-back options and end-of-term flexibility.
The locally manufactured BMW i5 Long Wheelbase strengthens BMW India’s electric vehicle portfolio and signals the company’s growing commitment to premium EV manufacturing in the Indian market.
