*Bengaluru, Dec 2:* Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced on Saturday that he is set to travel to Telangana in light of the election results, emphasizing his commitment to fulfill the responsibilities assigned by the party.
Addressing reporters at his Bengaluru residence, Shivakumar responded to queries about the possibility of a fractured verdict, stating that he will handle the situation as required. Regarding concerns over Congress MLAs being approached by other parties, he expressed confidence that none of the party members would defect. “We are not bothered about it.
Our candidates, when approached by other political parties, have informed us about the attempts to woo them. We are cautious,” he assured. Explaining his schedule, Shivakumar mentioned a constituency meeting in Bengaluru and a 10-day attendance at the winter session in Belagavi. He clarified his visit to Telangana, stating, “The leaders from neighboring states had worked in our state election. Our leaders have also worked in elections there. Hence, we will have our responsibilities during the elections of the neighboring state.”
The Telangana assembly poll results are scheduled for December 3, with exit polls indicating an advantage for the Congress party and a potential fractured mandate. Shivakumar had previously expressed readiness to take on responsibilities as assigned by the party in light of exit poll predictions of a hung assembly.
Responding to speculation about housing Congress legislators in Bengaluru if a hung assembly scenario arises, Shivakumar expressed confidence in the Congress party’s success in most states, including Rajasthan. He affirmed the commitment to follow party directives as needed. Shivakumar’s statements have triggered national-level discussions, considering his past experience in handling crisis situations for the Congress party.
