From Maoist Rebel to Minister: An Inspiring Journey of Danasari Anasuya in Telangana

Hyderabad, Dec 7: Danasari Anasuya, popularly known as Seethakka, marked an emotional moment as she transitioned from being a gun-wielding Maoist to a lawyer, MLA, and now a minister in Telangana. The ceremony took place at L. B. Stadium, witnessed by thousands of people.

Amid loud cheers, Seethakka, re-elected from Mulug constituency in the recent Assembly elections, took the oath of office. The 52-year-old, belonging to the Koya tribe, had a turbulent past as a Maoist leader, leading armed squads in tribal areas and experiencing personal losses in encounters.

Disillusioned with the movement, she surrendered in 1994, leading to a transformative journey. Seethakka pursued her studies, earned a law degree, and became an advocate in Warangal. Her political career began with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in 2004, but she faced setbacks until winning in 2009.

In 2017, she joined the Congress, making a strong comeback in 2018. Seethakka gained widespread attention for her humanitarian efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic, assisting remote villages in her constituency.

Completing her PhD in political sciences last year, Seethakka focused on social exclusion and deprivation of migrant tribals. Despite her challenging past, she remains committed to serving people and acquiring knowledge, embodying resilience and determination.

Seethakka’s remarkable journey reflects her unwavering spirit, evolving from a Naxalite to a respected political figure and scholar, as she embraces her new role as a minister in Telangana.
