*Lok Sabha Adjourned Amid Opposition Uproar; Five Congress MPs Suspended* New Delhi, Dec 14: The Lok Sabha faced another adjournment until 3 p.m. on Thursday due to uproar by opposition MPs.

Meanwhile, Speaker Om Birla named five Congress MPs, suspending them for the remainder of the session. As the House convened, opposition members raised slogans demanding the presence of the Prime Minister in the House. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi addressed the concerns, acknowledging the gravity of the safety and security issues faced by MPs.

Joshi stated, “The unfortunate incident that occurred yesterday was a serious matter concerning the safety and security of the MPs. The Speaker promptly held a meeting with all the floor leaders, and some suggestions for further strengthening the security in Parliament have already been implemented.”

He urged a unified response to such a grave issue, emphasizing the need to rise above party politics. Referring to past incidents, Joshi cited the example of April 11, 1974, when an individual named Ratan Chandra Gupta disrupted the House. Despite his call for unity, sloganeering by opposition members continued, prompting Joshi to move a resolution against Jothimani, Hibi Eden, TN Pratapan, Kumari Ramya Haridas, and Dean Kuriyakose.

The resolution, under Rule 374 (2), sought the suspension of these members for the remainder of the session for their “utter disregard” to the House and the authority of the Chair. The motion was adopted by voice vote. Joshi also informed the House that the Speaker has written to the Home Secretary for a high-level inquiry into the security breach, and the investigation is already underway.
