Congress President Kharge Criticizes Three Criminal Laws, Takes Indirect Swipe at VP Dhankhar
New Delhi, Dec 22: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge expressed concern on Friday over the passage of three criminal laws in Parliament without opposition, stating that these laws will significantly affect the people.
Addressing the ‘Save Democracy’ protest organized by the Indian National Democratic Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc, Kharge indirectly criticized Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar for raising the caste issue in Parliament. He remarked that if a person holding such a high Constitutional post focuses on caste matters, it reflects poorly on the condition of Dalits.
Kharge alleged that the INDIA bloc was formed because Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah had pledged to “end” democracy and the Constitution. He emphasized the suppression of Dalits, laborers, farmers, and women, citing the suspension of 146 MPs during the Winter Session.
Taking a dig at Dhankhar, Kharge stated, “If this is your condition then what would be my condition as a Dalit.” He criticized the government’s suspension of opposition MPs and highlighted the importance of the right to speak in a democracy.
Kharge also criticized the government for passing three criminal Bills, suggesting that these laws would significantly impact the people. He urged united opposition against the government’s actions and accused Modi of using threats in elections. The protest at Jantar Mantar was attended by several opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Shashi Tharoor, Sharad Pawar, and others.
