
Headline: 10th Deccan Haat Showcases India’s Rich Handloom and Handicraft Heritage in Hyderabad
Hyderabad, December 23, 2023 – The 10th edition of Deccan Haat, an exhibition of handlooms and handicrafts organized by NABARD Telangana, commenced with an inauguration ceremony led by Smt. Roopa Maganti, Co-Founder of Greentatwa. The event, held at Kamma Sangham Exhibition Hall on Ameerpet Main Road, Hyderabad, will run from 23rd to 31st December 2023, from 11 am to 9 pm.
Suseela Chintala, Chief General Manager, NABARD, expressed appreciation for the dedicated efforts behind the decade-long tradition of Deccan Haat, emphasizing its significance as a platform supporting rural artisans. Despite challenges, previous editions saw an average sale of ₹60 lakh, showcasing the resilience of the initiative even during the pandemic.

Highlighting NABARD’s commitment to supporting rural entrepreneurs, Shri. K V S Prasad, GM, NABARD, outlined the organization’s initiatives, particularly in skill development. The event aims to provide exposure to members of Farmers Producer Organizations (FPOs), showcasing their products and connecting them with market needs.
Smt B Padmavathi from ALEAP praised NABARD’s efforts in preserving and promoting India’s rich art and craft heritage, expressing optimism about these sectors gaining global recognition in the future.
The event also saw the participation of Smt Suchitra Sinha, focusing on uplifting vulnerable tribal groups, and Smt Roopa Maganti, who acknowledged the crucial role of farming and art & craft in India’s economy. She commended NABARD’s efforts in providing sustainable opportunities for entrepreneurs and urged artisans to adapt to changing consumer preferences.
With over 110 artisans from 25 states participating, the exhibition features a diverse array of handloom sarees, dress materials, food items, and art and craft products. Deccan Haat continues to serve as a vital platform for artisans to understand customer preferences, enhance market value, and foster the growth of India’s handloom and handicraft industry.
