Telangana Police Plans ‘Fit Cop’ Health Initiative for 90,000 Personnel

Hyderabad: The Telangana Police Department is preparing to launch ‘Fit Cop’, an app-based comprehensive health management initiative aimed at monitoring and improving the physical and mental well-being of more than 90,000 police personnel across the State.

Director General of Police (DGP) C.V. Anand announced the initiative on Friday, highlighting the health challenges faced by police personnel due to demanding work schedules, stressful duties and limited opportunities to focus on personal health.

He emphasised that physically and mentally healthy police personnel were essential for delivering effective public services. The initiative is being developed with the support of the Helping Hand Foundation and other organisations.

The proposed programme, known as TG Fit Cop, will function as a Police Health Management Profile System. Police personnel will be able to register their individual health details through a dedicated mobile application.

According to a release from the DGP’s office, the department is preparing an action plan to implement the programme within the next 30 to 45 days.

Health Risk Assessment Through Mobile App

The Fit Cop application will collect information on key health parameters, including diabetes, hypertension, Body Mass Index (BMI), existing medical conditions, lifestyle habits, physical activity, smoking and alcohol consumption.

Police personnel across Telangana will be able to access the platform using their registered mobile phone numbers.

Based on the health information submitted, personnel will be classified into three categories: low-risk, moderate-risk and high-risk. This assessment will help the department identify personnel who require medical attention and timely healthcare interventions.

Medical Support and Counselling for High-Risk Personnel

Explaining the support mechanism, Helping Hand Foundation founder Salman said personnel would be contacted through a dedicated call centre based on their health risk categories.

Those requiring additional medical attention would be facilitated with diagnostic investigations, hospital-based treatment, health guidance and counselling.

The initiative is expected to play a significant role in identifying potential health complications, particularly kidney-related ailments, diabetes and hypertension, at an early stage.

Focus on Preventive Healthcare

The primary objective of Fit Cop is to create health awareness among police personnel and encourage preventive healthcare rather than waiting for medical conditions to become serious.

The programme will be extended to all units and wings of the Telangana Police Department.

DGP C.V. Anand expressed confidence that Fit Cop would evolve into an important institutional mechanism for safeguarding the health of police personnel and improving their overall well-being.

Senior police officers, representatives of the Helping Hand Foundation and other participating organisations attended the meeting.
