Telangana State Widens Social Security Net to Include Gig and Platform Workers
Hyderabad December 30
In a move geared towards fostering comprehensive social welfare, the Telangana government has recently issued orders to extend the existing Social Security Scheme. The expansion now incorporates a broader spectrum of workers, namely Transport and Non-Transport Auto Drivers, Home Guards, Working Journalists, and the newly included Gig and Platform Workers.
A pivotal aspect of this development is the substantial Accident Insurance coverage amounting to Rs.5,00,000/- (Rs. Five Lakhs). This coverage is designed to provide financial protection in case of accidents, offering a safety net for those employed in diverse sectors.
One notable feature of the initiative is that the entire cost of the premium for the Accident Insurance is borne by the State Government. This means that beneficiaries covered under the scheme stand to receive the full insurance amount without any financial burden.

The decision to extend the Social Security Scheme to include Gig and Platform Workers reflects a forward-thinking approach by the government, acknowledging the evolving nature of the workforce and the need for inclusive social protection measures.
This comprehensive scheme underscores the government’s commitment to promoting the welfare of individuals contributing to different sectors within the state. By embracing a diverse range of professions, the government aims to create a robust safety net that enhances the overall social security landscape in Telangana.
