BCEF conducted the 193rd birth anniversary celebration of Savitribai Phule.

Hyderabad: On the occasion of Savitribai Phule’s 193rd birth anniversary celebration at BCEF Bhawan in Lakdikapool, Professor Tirumali, addressing the gathering as the chief guest, called upon the Telangana government to officially declare January 3 as Literacy Day. The event, organized to commemorate the pioneering contributions of Savitribai Phule, witnessed Professor Tirumali emphasizing the need for recognizing her legacy in the realm of education.

During his speech, Professor Tirumali commended Savitribai Phule’s unparalleled dedication to overcoming challenges and obstacles during her time. He urged the government to acknowledge its responsibility by designating Savitribai Jayanthi as Literacy Day, celebrating the achievements of the first woman teacher in the Indian subcontinent.

BCEF President Devalla Sammayya, also present at the event, highlighted Savitribai’s role as a nurturing figure for orphans, emphasizing her selfless commitment to ensuring that no child was deprived of education. Sammayya noted that Savitribai established a special school for women, providing educational opportunities in challenging circumstances.

Savitribai Phule, recognized as the first woman teacher in the Indian subcontinent, faced numerous challenges, including incidents of dung water and stone pelting. Despite these adversities, she played a crucial role in spreading education and awareness among women.

The program, held under the chairmanship of Backward Class Engineers Federation General Secretary Satishkotte, saw the participation of engineers Jyotirani, Vijayalakshmi, Rajeshwari, Venugopal, Srinivas, Vinod Rajendraprasad, and others. Professor Tirumali’s call to designate January 3 as Literacy Day aims to honor Savitribai Phule’s enduring legacy and contribution to education and women’s empowerment.
