Hyderabad, Jan 7: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has announced the appointment of a judicial commission for the reorganization of districts in the state. Criticizing the previous government’s handling of the district reorganization, he emphasized the need for a scientific approach. The Chief Minister stated that the Congress government will engage in a comprehensive study through the commission, and a decision will be made following discussions in the state Assembly.
Revanth Reddy, in office for a month, expressed the intention to involve public feedback in the district reorganization process. The proposed Judicial Commission, led by a retired judge from the Supreme Court or High Court, will visit all 119 constituencies to assess factors such as the number of municipalities, mandals, rural, and urban areas.
While Telangana initially had 10 districts upon its formation in 2014, the previous government expanded the count to 33 by creating 23 new districts. However, Revanth Reddy criticized the manner in which the reorganization was carried out, citing irregularities in the creation of mandals and revenue divisions.
The Chief Minister also outlined plans to expand the Cabinet within 100 days, following Legislative Council elections. He highlighted the need for minority representation and mentioned appointing a leader from the community to the Council and subsequently the Cabinet.
Revanth Reddy suggested the nomination of Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS) leader M. Kodandaram to the Legislative Council under the governor’s quota, recognizing his intellectual contributions. Additionally, he assured the filling of nominated posts such as commission chairpersons and government advisors by the end of January, prioritizing individuals who have contributed significantly to the party.
During the interview, Revanth Reddy revealed his hospital visit to former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, guided by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. He predicted Y. S. Sharmila, who merged her YSR Telangana Party into Congress, to become the next president of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee. The Chief Minister pledged support to Sharmila at the party level.
On a critical note, Revanth Reddy criticized Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy for not reaching out since assuming office.
