Powerful 6.0 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Hindu Kush Region, Tremors Felt in Afghanistan, India, and Pakistan
Kabul, Jan 11: A robust earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale rocked the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan on Thursday, causing tremors in parts of north India and Pakistan.
The GFZ German Research Centre for Geoscience reported that the quake’s epicenter, with a depth of 192.1 km, was initially located at 36.52 degrees north latitude and 70.71 degrees east longitude.
While there are no immediate reports of casualties or damages, the US Geological Survey (USGS) recorded the quake’s magnitude as 6.4, placing its epicenter 44km south-southeast of Jurm, Afghanistan.
Tremors were felt in Islamabad, Lahore, and surrounding areas in Pakistan, along with parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). In India, light tremors were reported in Delhi-NCR.
