This positive development maintains India’s 80th rank globally on the prestigious Henley Passport Index. Although the overall ranking remains consistent, the noteworthy increase in visa-free destinations, up from 57, signifies a significant improvement.
The Henley Passport Index, a leading tool for passport rankings, relies on data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to gauge global mobility and reflect the diplomatic reach of passports.
Among the most powerful passports globally are those of France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Singapore, and Spain. Citizens of these nations enjoy visa-free access to an impressive 194 countries. In contrast, Afghanistan holds the lowest position, allowing entry to only 28 countries, followed closely by Syria and Iraq with 29 and 31 visa-free destinations, respectively. The Pakistan passport also performed modestly this year, providing access to only 34 countries.
The extensive list of 62 countries now accessible to Indian passport holders without a visa spans Southeast Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Caribbean.
