Hyderabad, Jan 28: Two additional individuals, including a police officer, have been apprehended for purportedly shielding the son of a former MLA in connection with a road accident that transpired in Hyderabad last month, confirmed police sources.
Panjagutta police detained Circle Inspector Prem Kumar, the Station House Officer of Bodhan Police Station, and Abdul Wasey, an aide to the former MLA, in relation to the case. Both have been relocated to Hyderabad.
Previously, Panjagutta Circle Inspector B. Durga Rao faced suspension over allegations of shielding Raheel Aamir, the son of former Bodhan MLA Shakeel Aamir, and implicating another individual in the road accident.
Authorities had issued a lookout circular for Raheel, who departed for Dubai via Mumbai on December 24 to join his father, mere hours after colliding his BMW car into barricades in front of Praja Bhavan, the official residence of the Telangana Deputy Chief Minister.
The incident occurred in the early hours of December 24 when a speeding car collided with barricades at Praja Bhavan in Begumpet. Though no injuries were reported, damage was incurred by both the barricade and the car. The occupants fled, leaving the vehicle behind.
Initially, a case of rash driving was filed against an individual named Ibraheem, who claimed ownership of the abandoned car. Subsequent investigation revealed Raheel’s involvement as the driver, with police personnel allegedly aiding his evasion.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner K. Sreenivasa Reddy suspended the Station House Officer of Panjagutta Police Station on December 26 for suspected collusion with Raheel.
Raheel faces charges for misleading investigators by falsely attributing another individual as the driver during the accident. Notably, Raheel was previously implicated in an SUV accident in March 2022, where a two-month-old child died and four others sustained injuries. Allegations suggested Raheel was driving, though he denied it, asserting the vehicle belonged to his cousin.
