Patna, Jan 28: Nitish Kumar, the leader of Janata Dal-United (JD-U), has been sworn in as Chief Minister of Bihar for the ninth time. This follows his dissolution of the Cabinet and departure from the ‘Mahagathbandhan’ coalition to rejoin forces with the BJP.

The oath of office was administered by Bihar Governor Rajendra Arlekar at the Raj Bhavan in Patna.

Samrat Chaudhary, the Bihar unit BJP chief, and Vijay Kumar Sinha were appointed as Deputy Chief Ministers.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the trio on their new roles, expressing confidence in their commitment to Bihar’s development.

“The NDA government formed in Bihar will leave no stone unturned for the development of the state and to fulfill the aspirations of its people. I am confident that this team will work in a dedicated manner for the people of Bihar,” PM Modi said.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by BJP national president J.P. Nadda.

This realignment of alliances, with the BJP and JD-U joining forces, precedes the general elections, indicating a strategic move expected to bolster the saffron party’s performance in Bihar’s 40 Lok Sabha seats.
