The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) is expanding its investigation into the alleged illegal assets case of TSRERA’s former secretary, S. Balakrishna. In a recent development, ACB sources reveal a focus on the assets of former chief secretary Somesh Kumar’s family members.
Around 25 acres of agricultural land in Yacharam mandal, Rangareddy district, registered in the name of Dr. Gyan Mudra, wife of Somesh Kumar, are under scrutiny. According to the Dharani portal, the land, located in Survey No.s 249, 249/2, and 260 in Kothapalli village, is documented as patta land with a khata number.
The investigation aims to establish ownership details and transaction history of the said land. Questions loom over how Kumar’s family acquired the property and from whom. The ACB has filed a petition seeking police custody of Balakrishna, the former RERA secretary, for questioning regarding his involvement in suspicious land dealings and related irregularities.

Somesh Kumar Clarifies Land Transaction:
In response to recent inquiries, former chief secretary Somesh Kumar issued a statement, addressing the sale of his residential house and the purchase of 25 acres of agricultural land. Kumar affirmed that the acquisition of the agricultural land in Kothapalli village in 2018 adhered to government regulations.
He clarified that the residential house, situated in Prashasan Nagar and allotted by the state government, was sold. In exchange, he acquired the aforementioned agricultural land for a sum less than Rs.
Kumar emphasized that the land transaction had received prior approval from the government, and he obtained explicit permission through an official letter. The statement highlights Kumar’s adherence to government regulations and mentions his longstanding service as an IAS officer, along with his wife.
