Telangana CM Revanth Reddy Accuses Previous BRS Government of Surrendering Irrigation Projects

Hyderabad, Feb 4: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Sunday accused the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government, led by K. Chandrasekhar Rao, of surrendering irrigation projects on Krishna and Godavari rivers to the Centre while engaging in false propaganda against the Congress government.

Addressing a press conference, Reddy criticized KCR for alleging that the Congress government had handed over the projects, challenging him to participate in a debate on irrigation projects in the upcoming State Assembly session. Reddy stated that the government would release white papers on irrigation projects during the session, facilitating a two-day debate.

Reddy emphasized the need for transparency, inviting KCR and his family members to partake in the debate. He accused the BRS of attempting to gain political mileage through misinformation, asserting that the seeds for project handover were sown during KCR’s tenure as Member of Parliament.

Alleging injustice to Telangana, Reddy claimed that KCR and his team agreed to allocate 511 TMC of water to Andhra Pradesh, neglecting Telangana’s rightful share. He accused KCR of cooperating with Andhra Pradesh in diverting Krishna water and failing to protect Telangana’s interests.

Furthermore, Reddy accused KCR of supporting illegal projects in Andhra Pradesh and neglecting crucial irrigation projects in Telangana. He asserted that the Congress government is committed to fighting for Telangana’s water rights.

In response, Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy clarified that projects have not been handed over to the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB). He criticized the previous government for ineffective spending on projects.

Alleging KCR’s mismanagement of irrigation projects, Reddy concluded that the BRS leader has no credibility to comment on the issue.

The Chief Minister emphasized the government’s dedication to protecting Telangana’s interests in water resources, dismissing KCR’s allegations as baseless.
