In a rapid response to a maritime incident in the Gulf of Aden, the Indian Navy swiftly acted upon reports of a fire aboard the Liberia-flagged MV MSC Sky II. The vessel, located approximately 90 nautical miles southeast of the Gulf of Aden, was believed to have been targeted by a drone or missile attack on Tuesday.

The INS Kolkata, deployed in the region for maritime security operations, promptly arrived at the scene of the incident. A specialized firefighting team, consisting of 12 personnel from the INS Kolkata, boarded the vessel in the early hours of Tuesday to assist in firefighting efforts.

Additionally, a specialist Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team also boarded the vessel to assess residual risks and provide assistance.

This incident comes in the wake of another maritime mishap involving the Palau-flagged MV Islander, which caught fire under similar circumstances. Once again, the Indian Navy demonstrated its agility and efficiency in responding to distress calls at sea.
