United Nations, March 20: India’s Permanent Representative to the UN emphasized the nation’s commitment to women-led development initiatives during a special event held on Tuesday on the sidelines of the 68th annual Commission on the Status of Women.
Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj articulated India’s aspiration for “Viksit Bharat” by 2047, underscoring the necessity of full and equal participation of women across all sectors.

“We envision an India where women are self-empowered,” stated Ambassador Kamboj, highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a fully developed India by 2047.
India’s multifaceted strategy to empower women includes initiatives addressing health, safety, education, employment, and entrepreneurship. Ambassador Kamboj cited examples such as the One-Stop Centre Scheme, which provides integrated support to women affected by violence, and the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao program aimed at preventing female feticide.
India also boasts a high proportion of women enrolled in STEM disciplines and a significant number of women pilots in civil aviation.
Furthermore, initiatives like Start-Up India Stand-Up India have benefited women entrepreneurs, with a portion of funds reserved for women-led startups.

Ambassador Kamboj affirmed India’s commitment to continue striving for women’s empowerment, emphasizing the nation’s vision of self-empowered women contributing to a developed India.
India’s remarks align with the ongoing 68th annual Commission on the Status of Women, focusing on accelerating gender equality and women’s empowerment by addressing poverty and strengthening institutions and financing with a gender perspective.
