Ahmedabad, March 27: In a swift and decisive operation, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) executed a critical medical evacuation from a tugboat off the coast of Veraval in Gujarat, rescuing a severely ill individual.

Responding promptly to a distress call regarding a medical emergency aboard the tugboat ‘ABS Anokhi’ on Tuesday, the ICG interceptor craft IC-121 sprang into action from the ICG maritime Rescue Sub-Centre at Veraval, situated in Gir Somnath district.

The individual in need, identified as K Ponnusamy, aged 47, was located approximately 10 kilometers from Veraval, facing a dire medical situation.

Upon reaching the scene, the Coast Guard team swiftly established communication with the distressed vessel and initiated the evacuation process. Ponnusamy, who required urgent medical attention, was safely transferred to the ICG craft under the careful supervision of the onboard medical team.

Subsequently, he was transported to the government hospital in Veraval, where he received the requisite medical care and attention. The successful execution of this rescue mission underscores the unwavering commitment of the Indian Coast Guard to ensuring maritime safety and rendering assistance in times of distress.
