A fresh petition has been lodged in an Agra court in Uttar Pradesh, reigniting the debate over the true identity of the iconic Taj Mahal, with the plea urging its recognition as Tejo Mahalaya, a Hindu temple.

Filed on Wednesday, the petition calls for the cessation of all Islamic activities and practices deemed unsuitable for a place of worship within the premises of the Taj Mahal. The matter is slated for hearing on April 9, with Advocate Ajay Pratap Singh representing as the patron of Shree Bhagwan Shree Tejo Mahadev and serving as the president of Yogeshwar Shree Krishna Janmasthan Sewa Sangh Trust and Kshatriya Shaktipeeth Vikas Trust.

Citing references from various historical texts, the petitioner asserts that the structure’s history predates its designation as the Taj Mahal. This latest legal maneuver adds to the series of petitions previously submitted, which have sought the declaration of the Taj Mahal as a Shiva temple. While some of these petitions have been dismissed, others remain pending before the judiciary.

The ongoing legal saga surrounding the Taj Mahal’s identity continues to draw attention, sparking discussions about its historical origins and religious significance. As the case progresses, stakeholders on both sides of the debate await the court’s decision, which could potentially redefine the narrative surrounding one of India’s most iconic landmarks.
