A recent report unveiled alarming statistics regarding cybersecurity readiness among organizations in India, indicating that merely 4% possess the necessary “mature” level of preparedness to withstand modern cyber threats. The findings, presented in Cisco’s ‘2024 Cybersecurity Readiness Index,’ underscore the urgent need for enhanced resilience in the face of escalating cybersecurity risks.

According to the report, a staggering 82% of respondents anticipate that a cybersecurity incident is likely to disrupt their business operations within the next 12 to 24 months. Despite this looming threat, 88% of companies express “moderate to high confidence” in their ability to defend against cyberattacks using their existing infrastructure.

Jeetu Patel, EVP and General Manager of Security and Collaboration at Cisco, emphasized the dangers of overconfidence in addressing cybersecurity challenges. Patel stressed the importance of prioritizing investments in integrated platforms and leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to operate at scale and empower defenders against evolving threats.

The report highlights a global trend of increased cybersecurity budget allocations, with 99% of companies worldwide planning to boost their cybersecurity spending in the next 12 months. Additionally, approximately 71% of organizations intend to undertake significant upgrades to their IT infrastructure within the next 12 to 24 months.

Samir Kumar Mishra, Director of Security Business at Cisco India & SAARC, emphasized the imperative for organizations to integrate AI into frontline defenses as part of their overarching cybersecurity strategy. Mishra stressed that such measures are crucial to fortify defenses, future-proof operations, and enhance security resilience in an increasingly digital-centric landscape.

As organizations navigate the evolving threat landscape, the report underscores the critical importance of proactive measures to strengthen cybersecurity readiness. By investing in advanced technologies, fostering a culture of vigilance, and adopting comprehensive cybersecurity strategies, organizations can mitigate risks and safeguard against potential disruptions to business continuity.
