Election Commission Bans KCR’s Campaign for 48 Hours Over Alleged Inappropriate Comments; BRS and Congress Trade Allegations

Hyderabad May 01

In a significant development ahead of the elections, the Election Commission of India has imposed a 48-hour ban on the election campaign of Telangana’s former Chief Minister and BRS leader, KCR. This decision stems from complaints filed by Congress leaders, who allege that KCR made inappropriate comments during his campaign rallies.

The ban, scheduled to be effective from 8 pm on Wednesday until 8 pm on Sunday, has ignited a flurry of reactions from both political camps. KCR, in his response, vehemently denies any wrongdoing, asserting that his remarks were misunderstood by the authorities. He argues that his comments, delivered in the local dialect, were aimed at questioning the failures of Congress policies and promises rather than making personal attacks.

However, the ban has not gone unnoticed by KCR’s party members. BRS Working President KTR has strongly condemned the decision, decrying it as an attempt to muzzle the voice of Telangana. He questions the selective enforcement of bans, pointing out the lack of action against other politicians, including Prime Minister Modi, for alleged hate speech. KTR’s criticism extends to the Election Commission’s handling of complaints against prominent figures, suggesting a bias in their approach.

In a retaliatory move, the BRS party has lodged a complaint against Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, alleging forgery of a circular related to OU Hostels. They have urged the Election Commission to initiate legal proceedings against Revanth Reddy, further intensifying the political drama leading up to the elections.

As tensions escalate and accusations fly between rival factions, the electoral landscape in Telangana becomes increasingly fraught with controversy. The ban on KCR’s campaign and the subsequent exchange of allegations between BRS and Congress underscore the high stakes and charged atmosphere prevailing in the state’s political arena.
