June 19, 2024 — Australia’s Marcus Stoinis has ascended to the top of the ICC Men’s T20I all-rounder rankings, following a string of exceptional performances in the ongoing T20 World Cup. His career-defining rating of 231 highlights his impact on the field, both with the bat and ball, as Australia advanced to the Super Eight stage with an unblemished record.

Stoinis played a crucial role in Australia’s campaign, taking six vital wickets and delivering three significant batting performances. One of his standout moments came against Namibia, where he bowled an economical spell, claiming 2/9 and dismantling their batting lineup, setting the stage for an Australian victory.

His most remarkable performance was in the final group stage match against Scotland. With Australia struggling at 60/3 in the ninth over, Stoinis delivered a match-winning innings, scoring 59 runs off just 29 balls and steering his team to a crucial victory.

These performances catapulted Stoinis to the top of the all-rounder rankings, surpassing Mohammad Nabi, who dropped to fourth place. Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga and Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan now occupy the second and third spots, respectively.

In other ranking updates, the West Indies, co-hosts of the World Cup, have made notable strides, particularly in bowling. Akeal Hosein surged six places to claim the second spot in the ICC T20I Bowling Rankings, trailing only England’s Adil Rashid. Alzarri Joseph also made a significant leap, climbing six places to just outside the top ten, while Gudakesh Motie jumped 16 spots to reach 13th place.

In the batting rankings, the top four positions remain unchanged, with Suryakumar Yadav, Phil Salt, Babar Azam, and Mohammad Rizwan holding steady. However, Australian opener Travis Head’s consistent form has moved him up five places to fifth. The West Indies’ Nicholas Pooran soared eight spots to 11th, and Sherfane Rutherford’s unbeaten 68 against New Zealand propelled him up 43 places to 42nd.
