As David Warner’s 15-year international cricket career came to a close following Australia’s exit from the T20 World Cup, former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh shared a poignant message for his ex-IPL captain.

The duo had played together for Sunrisers Hyderabad from 2016 to 2017, during which Warner captained the franchise to their maiden IPL title. Warner’s international career concluded gradually, with his last One Day International (ODI) appearance during Australia’s successful 2023 campaign in India and his final Test match against Pakistan in early 2024.

In his last match donning the Australian jersey against India, Warner’s innings ended disappointingly with just six runs from six balls. He edged a delivery from Arshdeep Singh to slip, where Suryakumar Yadav took a precise low catch. Frustrated, Warner expressed his emotions by punching his bat with his right hand before walking off the field with a bowed head, marking his departure without a traditional guard of honour or standing ovation.

Yuvraj Singh’s tribute captured the essence of Warner’s career: “No one likes a quiet goodbye, but that’s the game of life mate. Well done on an incredible career @davidwarner31! From smashing boundaries on the park to nailing Bollywood moves and dialogues, you’ve done it all in true #Warner style. A feared batsman, a lively teammate, and a true entertainer on and off the field. It was a pleasure sharing the dressing room with you buddy. Go well #legend and enjoy your well-deserved time off with the lovely family.”

Warner’s legacy extends beyond international cricket, with a stellar franchise T20 career, notably in the IPL where he became the fourth batter to surpass 10,000 runs in 2021.

David Warner’s retirement marks the end of an era in Australian cricket, celebrated by fans and peers alike for his contributions both on and off the field.
