Kolkata, West Bengal

A senior citizen traveling from north Bengal to Kolkata aboard the Uttar Banga Express suffered severe head injuries when the middle berth of the train unexpectedly collapsed. Bimalendu Ray, the affected passenger, is now out of immediate danger, although the seriousness of his head injuries warrants caution.

The incident has raised alarm among fellow passengers in the same AC three-tier compartment. It comes in the wake of a similar tragedy involving Ali Khan, who tragically lost his life when the middle berth collapsed on the Ernakulam-Hazrat Nizamuddin Express during his journey from Kerala to Delhi.

According to a fellow passenger traveling with Ray, the accident occurred as the train was entering Sealdah railway station. The chain supporting the middle berth snapped, causing it to fall directly onto Ray’s head. Prompt action by fellow passengers ensured that Ray, who was bleeding profusely, received immediate attention. He was rushed to the nearby NRS Medical College and Hospital for medical treatment.

Fortunately, Ray’s condition stabilized, and he has been discharged from the hospital. However, doctors have advised him to observe bed rest for several days as a precautionary measure.

As authorities investigate the cause of the berth collapse, passengers remain concerned about safety during train travel. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for vigilance and maintenance to prevent such accidents in the future.
