Avesh Khan Lauds New Head Coach Gautam Gambhir: Driven to Win for Team India
India’s fast-bowler Avesh Khan has expressed his confidence in newly-appointed head coach Gautam Gambhir, highlighting his unwavering commitment to seeing his team win. Gambhir, known for his fierce competitive spirit, begins his tenure with the Indian cricket team on July 26, during the white-ball tour of Sri Lanka.
Avesh, who played under Gambhir’s mentorship at Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2022 and 2023, shared insights into the coachโs approach. โWhatever I have learned from him is about having the mindset that you should always go to defeat your opponent and give your hundred percent,” Avesh stated during a pre-match press conference ahead of back-to-back T20Is against Zimbabwe.
Gambhirโs coaching style, as described by Avesh, involves concise yet impactful communication, where each player is given specific tasks to contribute to the teamโs success. This approach, coupled with Gambhirโs focus on teamwork and dedication, is expected to drive the Indian cricket team to new heights over the next three and a half years.
Avesh, who has been performing well in the ongoing series against Zimbabwe with six wickets in three matches, attributed his success to the favorable conditions at the Harare Sports Club. He emphasized the importance of adaptability and being prepared to bowl in varying situations, a skill he continues to hone under the guidance of experienced coaches and mentors like Gambhir.
Reflecting on his growth as a bowler, Avesh mentioned the influence of fast-bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, particularly in terms of execution. โHis style of bowling and mindset are different, but the main thing is his execution,โ Avesh noted. He emphasized the need for precision in bowling, a principle he consistently practices.
Avesh also expressed his aspirations to play Test cricket for India, citing his extensive experience in red-ball cricket at the domestic level. He looks forward to showcasing his skills in the longer format, believing it to be the ultimate test for a bowler.
As the Indian cricket team gears up for the upcoming series and the new coaching era under Gambhir, Avesh’s insights reflect a promising future driven by determination, strategic planning, and an unwavering desire to win.
