Day 3 of the 2nd Hockey India Junior Women and Men South Zone Championship 2024 witnessed exhilarating matches with standout performances by Hockey Karnataka, Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana.
Women’s Matches:
Hockey Karnataka vs. Le Puducherry Hockey
In an early morning women’s fixture, Hockey Karnataka triumphed over Le Puducherry Hockey with a resounding 10-0 victory. Rakshita J. led the scoring spree with goals in the 28th, 43rd, 48th, and 60th minutes. Deepika also made significant contributions with goals in the 15th, 53rd, and 58th minutes. Shruti Chandrappa Huggenavar (11’), Manish Ponamma (14’), and Disha M. (51’) added to the scoreboard.
Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu vs. Telangana Hockey
In another women’s fixture, the Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu overwhelmed Telangana Hockey with a decisive 9-1 win. Rubini S. Nithya (8’, 29’, 48’) and Jayashalini S. (39’, 43’, 53’) both achieved hat tricks, while Anusuya (21’, 58’) and Roobini M. (60’) also scored. Lakadabhoina Navey Sri (52’) scored the sole goal for Telangana.
Andhra Pradesh vs. Kerala Hockey
The final women’s fixture saw Andhra Pradesh dominate Kerala Hockey with an 11-0 victory. Thokala Yuvarani was the top scorer with goals in the 10th, 22nd, 23rd, and 24th minutes. Lalitha Kotari (7’, 39’, 57’) secured a hat trick, while Ankitha Bommu (2’), Tulasi Kuppa (26’), captain Harathi Lomada (28’), and Sreevidya Thirumalasetty (46’) also contributed to the score.
Men’s Matches:
Telangana Hockey vs. Hockey Karnataka
The first men’s encounter of the day saw Telangana Hockey edge out Hockey Karnataka in a closely contested match, winning 2-1. Nithin Banavanth (26’) gave Telangana the lead before Kiran Reddy (27’) equalized for Karnataka. Sujeet Rajbhar (41’) scored the winning goal for Telangana.
Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu vs. Kerala Hockey
In the second men’s fixture, the Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu defeated Kerala Hockey 6-2. Kamalesh K. (28’, 38’) scored a brace, with additional goals from Manimaran (2’), K. Gowtham (3’), Vishal S. (24’), and captain Arjun J. (58’). Kerala Hockey’s T. Yadav Ram scored two late goals (55’, 59’).
Hockey Andhra Pradesh vs. Le Puducherry Hockey
The final men’s match saw Hockey Andhra Pradesh secure a 5-2 victory over Le Puducherry Hockey. Captain Nadiminti Akhil Venkat (4’, 46’) led by example, with support from Yaswanth Devatha (14’), Charan Kumar Kotte (33’), and Kumar Metta Sai (49’). Le Puducherry Hockey’s Dharshan (2’) and Captain Keerthivasan (47’) scored their goals.
