Former Telangana Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy Appointed as Advisor to State Government

Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, former Speaker of the Telangana Assembly and current Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), has been appointed as an Advisor (Agriculture) to the Telangana state government. The appointment, which carries the rank and status of a Minister of State, was confirmed through a Government Order issued by Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari.

This new role follows Reddy’s defection from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) to the ruling Congress party just two months ago. On June 21, Reddy officially joined the Congress after being personally invited by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, who visited his residence to extend the invitation. A seasoned politician from Nizamabad district, Reddy expressed his commitment to working under Revanth Reddy’s leadership.

Reddy’s political journey includes serving as the Minister for Agriculture and Cooperation in the first BRS government from 2014 to 2018. After BRS retained power in 2018, he was appointed as the Speaker of the Telangana Assembly, a position he held until recently.

In addition to Reddy’s appointment, the government has named Gutha Amith Reddy as the Chairman of Telangana Dairy Development Co-operative Federation Limited for a two-year term.

Throughout his career, Reddy has been a key figure in Telangana’s political landscape, known for his dedication to agriculture and farmers’ welfare. He previously served as a minister in Telugu Desam Party (TDP) governments during the united Andhra Pradesh era, before shifting his allegiance to the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS, now BRS) in 2011 to support the demand for Telangana’s statehood.

Reddy’s influence in the Banswada constituency remains strong, having been re-elected from the constituency for a fifth consecutive term in the 2023 elections. His deep roots in agriculture and experience in governance are expected to bolster the Congress government’s initiatives aimed at enhancing the agricultural sector and farmer welfare in Telangana.
