Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President, KT Rama Rao, on Tuesday, called on the Chief Justice of India (CJI) and the Supreme Court to initiate contempt proceedings against Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, over his comments regarding the bail granted to BRS MLC K Kavitha in the Delhi excise policy case.

Reacting strongly to Bandi Sanjay Kumar’s remarks, KT Rama Rao accused the Union Minister of casting aspersions on the Supreme Court’s decision. “You’re a Union minister in charge of Home Affairs & casting aspersions on the Supreme Court!! Highly unbecoming of your position,” KT Rama Rao wrote on X (formerly Twitter). He further urged, “I respectfully urge the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India & the respected Supreme Court to take cognisance of these comments and initiate contempt proceedings.”

Bandi Sanjay Kumar had commented on Kavitha’s bail by congratulating the Congress party and its advocates, which appeared to insinuate a nexus between the Congress and BRS. “Congratulations to the Congress party and its advocates for securing bail for BRS MLC in the infamous liquor scam. Your untiring efforts finally yielded fruits. This bail is a win for both BRS and Congress — BRS leader is out on bail & the Congress man gets to Rajya Sabha,” he posted on X, seemingly referring to Abhishek Manu Singhvi, the Congress candidate for Rajya Sabha from Telangana.

The BJP leader went on to suggest that there was political maneuvering behind the bail, stating, “Remarkable political acumen by KCR in supporting the candidate, who initially argued for the bail, to be nominated to Rajya Sabha unopposed by the ruling Congress. Congratulations to the partners in crime who wine & dine.”

KT Rama Rao, who is also the brother of K Kavitha, had earlier expressed gratitude to the Supreme Court after it granted her bail. “Thank You Supreme Court. Relief. Justice prevailed,” he posted on X. Both KT Rama Rao and his cousin, senior BRS leader T Harish Rao, were present in the Supreme Court when the bail orders were pronounced.

Several BRS leaders, who were in the national capital at the time, also congratulated KT Rama Rao following the court’s decision.

BRS leader Dr. Sravan Dasoju welcomed the Supreme Court’s order, describing it as a triumph of truth and justice. He emphasized that the decision came after what the BRS claims were politically motivated allegations against Kavitha. “The Honorable Supreme Court has questioned the rationale behind keeping Srimathi Kavitha in custody even after the investigation was complete and the charge sheet was filed,” Dr. Dasoju stated, highlighting the court’s observations during the hearing as crucial in revealing the alleged unfair treatment towards Kavitha.

The remarks by Bandi Sanjay Kumar and the subsequent reaction from KT Rama Rao have sparked a political controversy, with calls for the Supreme Court to consider taking action against the Union Minister for his comments.
