President Droupadi Murmu Unveils New Supreme Court Flag and Insignia on Its 75th Anniversary

On Sunday, President Droupadi Murmu unveiled the new flag and insignia of the Supreme Court of India to commemorate the 75th anniversary of its establishment. The event took place during the valedictory session of the two-day National Conference of District Judiciary, organized by the apex court.

In her address, President Murmu highlighted the Supreme Court’s invaluable role as a vigilant guardian of the judicial system in the world’s largest democracy. She praised the Court’s contribution to Indian jurisprudence, noting that it holds a highly respected position worldwide due to its commitment to justice and fairness.

President Murmu commended the Supreme Court for organizing numerous programs to mark its 75th anniversary, which she said have helped strengthen public trust and attachment to the judicial system. She reiterated that the public sees every judge in the country as a figure of great moral standing and emphasized the importance of every judge and judicial officer upholding the principles of dharma, truth, and justice.

“The district-level courts shape the image of the judiciary in the minds of millions of citizens. Therefore, providing justice to the people through district courts with sensitivity, promptness, and at a low cost is fundamental to the success of our judiciary,” President Murmu stated.

She acknowledged that significant improvements have been made in recent years in the availability of infrastructure, facilities, training, and human resources at the district court level, but she stressed that much more needs to be done in these areas.

President Murmu pointed out that the backlog and pendency of cases remain a significant challenge for the judiciary, with some cases pending for over 32 years. She emphasized the importance of organizing programs such as special Lok Adalat weeks more frequently to address the backlog of cases and expedite the delivery of justice.

She also suggested implementing measures to provide justice in local languages and under local conditions to better achieve the goal of delivering justice to everyone’s doorstep. “The judiciary, government, and police administration should work together to find solutions to issues related to evidence and witnesses,” she added.

Concluding her address, President Murmu expressed confidence that the implementation of new criminal justice laws would help usher in a new era of justice in India. She called for continued collaboration among all branches of government to strengthen the judicial system and ensure timely and fair justice for all citizens.
