Telangana Government Prepares for Statewide Caste Census: CM Revanth Reddy Meets Governor

Hyderabad, November 06,2024: The Telangana government is gearing up to launch a historic statewide door-to-door caste census aimed at obtaining accurate data on the social and economic status of various communities across the state. In a significant step towards this, Telangana Government Advisor for SC, ST, BC, and Minorities Mohammed Ali Shabbir, along with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, visited Raj Bhavan on Wednesday to meet with Hon’ble Governor Jishnudev Varma.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister and his team briefed the Governor on the importance of the caste census, which is set to provide crucial data that could shape future welfare and development policies. The caste census is being seen as a tool to ensure that resources and benefits reach the most deserving communities, while also addressing disparities in access to education, employment, and social welfare schemes.

Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and Nalgonda MP Ch. Kiran Kumar Reddy were also present at the meeting, highlighting the government’s united approach to the project. The census is expected to cover every household in the state, with enumerators collecting data directly from residents to ensure accuracy and inclusivity.

Speaking to the media, Mohammed Ali Shabbir emphasized the need for up-to-date and comprehensive caste-based data in Telangana, stating that it would play a pivotal role in formulating targeted schemes for marginalized communities. “The census will not only reflect the population composition but will also help identify the socio-economic needs of underrepresented groups, enabling the government to address inequities more effectively,” Shabbir said.

The meeting with the Governor is seen as a formal step in obtaining his approval and support for the census process, which is expected to commence soon. The government has assured that the process will be conducted in a transparent and efficient manner, ensuring that all sections of society are represented.

This door-to-door initiative will be one of the most extensive data collection efforts undertaken in the state, with officials and enumerators receiving special training for the task. The census will include detailed questions about caste, income levels, education, and access to government benefits, forming a vital database for policy formulation.

With political and administrative support from key figures, including Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, the caste census is set to mark a major milestone in Telangana’s efforts to promote social justice and inclusive development.
