Fire Breaks Out in Jhansi Hospital NICU, 10 Children Dead, 16 Injured

Jhansi, November 15, 2024: A devastating fire broke out at the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, on Friday, resulting in the tragic death of at least 10 children and injuries to 16 others.

The blaze, suspected to have been caused by a short circuit, erupted in the children’s ward, which had 54 patients at the time. The incident led to panic and chaos as families and hospital staff scrambled to evacuate the young patients, causing a stampede-like situation.

Firefighters were quickly dispatched to the scene and managed to rescue 37 children from the burning ward. Emergency services worked tirelessly to control the fire and assist the injured.

District Magistrate Avinash Kumar stated that preliminary evidence points to a short circuit as the likely cause of the fire, though a thorough investigation is underway to determine the exact reasons behind the tragedy.

The incident has shocked the local community, with grieving families calling for accountability and better safety measures in hospitals. Further updates are awaited as authorities continue their probe into this heartbreaking incident.
