President Murmu Honors Bravehearts, Highlights India’s Progress Ahead of 76th Republic Day
On the eve of the 76th Republic Day, President Droupadi Murmu approved Gallantry Awards for 93 Armed Forces and Central Armed Police Forces personnel, including 11 posthumously, for their acts of valor and devotion to duty.
Gallantry Awards Highlights:
- Kirti Chakras: 2 (1 posthumous)
- Shaurya Chakras: 14 (3 posthumous)
- Sena Medals (Gallantry): 66 (7 posthumous)
- Nao Sena Medals (Gallantry): 2
- Vayu Sena Medals (Gallantry): 8
Additionally, 305 defence decorations were approved, including 30 Param Vishisht Seva Medals, 57 Ati Vishisht Seva Medals, and 132 Vishisht Seva Medals, among others.
President’s Address to the Nation:
In her address, President Murmu reflected on India’s achievements, resilience, and progress:
- Farming and Labour Contributions: She lauded farmers for making India self-sufficient in food production and laborers for transforming the country’s infrastructure and manufacturing sector.
- ISRO’s Achievements: She celebrated ISRO’s successful space docking experiment, making India the fourth country globally to achieve this milestone.
- Youth as Nation Builders: Highlighting the potential of India’s youth, especially young women, she emphasized their pivotal role in shaping the future.
- Environment Campaign: President Murmu spotlighted the successful completion of the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, which planted 80 crore seedlings ahead of schedule.

The President urged the nation to remain committed to Mahatma Gandhi’s values of truth and non-violence, stressing the importance of balancing rights and duties for a harmonious future.
Republic Day Significance:
Republic Day, celebrated on January 26, marks the adoption of the Constitution in 1950, symbolizing India’s transition to a republic. The day is commemorated with parades, cultural programs, and ceremonies across the country.
