The hail rains have severely impacted the farmers in the state of Telangana, India. The untimely rains and strong winds have damaged crops in all the districts of the state, with estimates suggesting that around 5 lakh acres of crops have been damaged. The crops that have been affected include chilli, maize, mango, and paddy, with the latter two being major crops in the state. The impact has been severe on maize and rice crops, with corn crops being broken and paddy fields falling. The chilli crop has fallen to the ground, which will reduce the prices, causing worries for the farmers. The mango plantations have also been damaged due to the fall of pods, and the Mango gardens have been affected due to the impact of hail. The officials estimate that the production of mangoes will fall by half this time, which will cause huge losses to the farmers. The farmers’ associations are demanding compensation for the crops damaged by the hailstorms, as they are not covered by crop insurance. They are demanding Rs.12,000 per acre for paddy, Rs.35,000 for vegetables, Rs.15,000 for maize, and Rs.50,000 for orchards.

Several villages in Charla Mandal of Bhadradri Kothagudem district, including Gompalli, Megalpalli, Chintakunta, and Kothapalli, have suffered immense damage to their chillie crops due to unseasonal rains. As per reports, hundreds of acres of farmland, Crops have been submerged in water, causing significant losses to the farmers in the region.


In response to this crisis, the Telangana Rythu Sangam has urged the central and state governments to extend assistance to the affected farmers. The organization has demanded that farmers who have lost their crops should receive a compensation of 3 lakh rupees per acre for their losses. Additionally, they have requested a compensation of 2 lakh rupees per acre for farmers who have suffered damage to their crops.
The devastation caused by the unseasonal rains has been a severe blow to the farmers in these villages, who were already struggling with the effects of the ongoing pandemic. The loss of their crops is likely to have a significant impact on their livelihoods and financial stability.
The Telangana Rythu Sangam has appealed to the authorities to take swift action to address the situation and provide the necessary support to the affected farmers.
