Mamata Banerjee Blames BJP, CPI-M for WBSSC Job Cancellations, Calls It a Conspiracy

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the BJP and CPI-M, alleging that both parties were conspiring to collapse the state’s education system. Her remarks came after the Supreme Court upheld the Calcutta High Court’s verdict cancelling all teaching and non-teaching appointments made by the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) in 2016.

While Banerjee did not confirm whether the state government would file a review petition in the Supreme Court, she strongly criticized CPI-M leader and senior advocate Bikas Ranjan Bhattacharya and indirectly targeted former Calcutta High Court judge-turned-BJP MP Abhijit Ganguly, who had first ordered a CBI probe into the school jobs scam.

CM Mamata Banerjee’s Sharp Criticism

Without naming Abhijit Ganguly, she said:

“A former judge of the Calcutta High Court first spoke about this cancellation of jobs. He is now a BJP Lok Sabha member. I do not know his name or surname. So everyone understands what has happened.”

Banerjee also mocked Bikas Ranjan Bhattacharya, who represented the deprived candidates in courts, saying:

“He should get a Nobel Prize. I am thinking of recommending his name.”

Further, she hit out at BJP state president and Union Minister of State Sukanta Majumdar, questioning why she was being blamed for the crisis.

Concern Over Impact on Education System

Expressing concern over the future of teachers and students, Banerjee warned that if thousands of teachers lost their jobs, schools could face an academic crisis.

“There is a conspiracy to destabilize the education system in West Bengal.”

On the possibility of a review petition, she said the legal team was examining the matter, and a decision would be taken accordingly.

As the political blame game intensifies, West Bengal’s education sector faces uncertainty. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
