New Delhi, April 5, 2025:
In a fresh political salvo, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva on Saturday accused former Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal of indulging in “extravagant spending and corruption”, citing an RTI reply that revealed ₹29.56 crore was spent on maintaining Kejriwal’s official bungalow between March 31, 2015, and December 27, 2022.
Calling Kejriwal the “Master of Corruption”, Sachdeva said the expenditure amounts to nearly ₹1 lakh per day and demanded an immediate inquiry by the Delhi government. “The scams perpetrated by Kejriwal are not coming to an end. We will ask for a probe into how such an exorbitant amount was spent on general repairs, sewage, electricity, and structural work of the bungalow,” he told IANS.
The BJP leader questioned the necessity of such high maintenance costs, saying, “What exactly was so deficient in his bungalow that Rs 31 lakh per month was needed for its upkeep?”
According to Sachdeva, the RTI was filed by a citizen from Maharashtra, and the Delhi government’s response dated December 29, 2023, detailed a staggering ₹3.69 crore in annual expenses for the Civil Lines-based residence on Flag Staff Road. He emphasized that this figure reflects only general maintenance and does not include renovation or new construction.
“In Delhi, one can build a new 250-300 sq. yard bungalow for ₹3-4 crore. But Kejriwal’s annual maintenance expense itself is ₹3.69 crore. This raises serious questions of misuse of public funds or possible corruption,” Sachdeva added.
He also criticized Kejriwal for allegedly avoiding the media following AAP’s poor performance in the recent Delhi elections, urging him to publicly respond to the allegations.
Further targeting AAP leadership, Sachdeva slammed former Education Minister Manish Sisodia, who is already facing a CBI probe in the Delhi liquor scam. “We will also demand a CBI probe into the education sector scams and expose the AAP government’s collusion with private schools,” he said.
The BJP has promised to continue its campaign to uncover alleged financial irregularities under the AAP regime, hinting at more disclosures in the coming days.
