Patna, April 5, 2025:
The political heat in Bihar has intensified over the controversial Waqf Amendment Bill-2025, with Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav declaring that the Bill will be “thrown into the dustbin” if his party returns to power in the state.

Calling the Bill “unconstitutional” and a violation of Article 26 of the Indian Constitution, Yadav accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of using divisive strategies to divert public attention from pressing national issues.

“The Waqf Amendment Bill is unconstitutional. It infringes on religious freedom and aims to polarise society. The BJP is trying to shift focus from inflation, unemployment, and inequality by stirring communal sentiments,” Yadav stated on Saturday.

In a sharp attack on both the BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Yadav alleged that the central government is attempting to override the Constitution in favour of an ideological agenda.

“They want to replace the Indian Constitution with the laws of Nagpur. The RSS-BJP combine is anti-Constitution. RJD stands for secularism, social justice, and democratic values — we will continue this fight inside and outside the legislature,” he said.

Yadav also took aim at Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, accusing him of compromising secular values for political power. “Nitish Kumar’s political alliances are opportunistic. His recent alignment with the BJP is a betrayal of Bihar’s secular ethos,” he said.

Highlighting the broader implications of the Bill, Tejashwi warned that its true objective is to alienate Muslims, Dalits, and backward communities.

“The Bill is not just a legal change — it’s an attempt to disempower the most marginalised. We have already moved the Supreme Court against it and will oppose it at every level,” he asserted.

The Waqf Amendment Bill has sparked controversy across Bihar, with reports of internal dissent in the Janata Dal United (JDU) and several Muslim leaders either resigning or voicing strong objections.

Yadav reiterated that the RJD has never compromised on its ideological commitments, regardless of its position in government or opposition, and will continue to lead the resistance against the Bill.

As political alliances realign and tensions escalate, Tejashwi Yadav’s strong opposition has added a new edge to the unfolding debate over the Waqf Amendment Bill in Bihar and beyond.
