Hyderabad, April 17, 2025 – Telangana Police has clinched the top spot in the Police category of the India Justice Report (IJR) 2025, released by Tata Trusts on April 15. Scoring an impressive 6.48 out of 10, Telangana outshone Andhra Pradesh (6.44) and Karnataka (6.19) among 18 large and mid-sized states, cementing its position as a national leader in law enforcement.

The IJR 2025, compiled with partners like the Centre for Social Justice, Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative, and Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy, evaluates states on police, judiciary, prisons, and legal aid using data from 2019–2024. The report assesses over 30 indicators, including staffing, infrastructure, budgets, workload, and diversity.

Why Telangana Police Stands Out

  1. Strong Infrastructure & Staffing
Telangana boasts one urban police station per 10.6 sq. km and one rural station per 282 sq. km. With a constable vacancy rate of just 13% (below the national average), the state recruited 547 Sub-Inspectors and 12,338 constables in 2023.
  2. Technology-Driven Policing
85% of police stations are equipped with CCTV cameras and women’s help desks, boosting safety and transparency.
  3. Innovative Community Engagement
The ‘Cyber Awareness’ program trains school students as ‘Cyber Ambassadors’ to promote digital safety and combat cybercrime.
  4. Award-Winning Stations
  • Shalibanda Police Station (Hyderabad) ranked 8th best in India by the Ministry of Home Affairs in 2024.
  • Rajendranagar Police Station was named India’s Best Police Station in 2023 among 17,000 contenders.
  1. Smart Policing Tools
Initiatives like the Hawk Eye app, Facial Recognition System, Command Control Centres, and Dial 100 rapid response system have revolutionized efficiency.
  2. Citizen-Centric Approach
Telangana Police prioritize visible policing, swift crime response, higher POCSO conviction rates, improved personnel conduct, and a zero-tolerance stance on drugs.

A Model for Policing in India

The India Justice Report 2025 highlights Telangana Police’s commitment to technology-driven, transparent, and community-focused policing. Rising from third place in 2024 to the top in 2025, the force sets a national benchmark for law enforcement.

As T.H. Green once said, “The existence of police is essential to hinder the hindrance to good life.” Telangana Police exemplifies this principle, ensuring justice and safety for all.
