Bomb Threat Emails Spark Panic in Over 20 Delhi Schools; No Explosives Found

New Delhi, July 18, 2025
Widespread panic gripped the national capital on Thursday morning after more than 20 schools across Delhi received bomb threat emails, prompting large-scale emergency responses, school evacuations, and police investigations. Fortunately, no explosives or suspicious objects were found during the extensive searches carried out by security agencies.

The bomb threats, which were reportedly sent via identical emails, began arriving between 7:00 AM and 8:30 AM. Affected institutions included several prominent private and government schools located in South Delhi, East Delhi, and Central Delhi.

Immediate Evacuation and Massive Security Deployment

Upon receiving the alarming messages, school authorities immediately contacted the Delhi Police, triggering swift action. Bomb Disposal Squads (BDS), dog squads, Quick Response Teams (QRTs), and local police units were deployed to each school. As a precautionary measure, all students and staff members were evacuated safely, and parents were informed not to panic and arrive to pick up their children.

Schools such as Modern School (Barakhamba Road), Delhi Public School (RK Puram), and Bluebells School International were among those reportedly targeted. Streets around these campuses were cordoned off as search operations continued for several hours.

Preliminary Investigation Suggests Hoax

Following exhaustive searches at all affected schools, police officials confirmed that no explosives were found, terming the threats as likely hoax emails. However, officials emphasized that every alert is being treated with utmost seriousness.

A senior Delhi Police officer stated,

“It appears to be a coordinated hoax, but we are not taking any chances. Our cybercrime unit is working to trace the origin of the emails. We are also examining the IP addresses and server data to determine whether the threats were sent from within India or abroad.”

Centre, IB Step In

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has taken cognizance of the situation, and the Intelligence Bureau (IB) has been roped in to assist the investigation. Sources in the Home Ministry stated that the pattern of the emails indicates a deliberate attempt to spread fear and disrupt normal life.

Security agencies are also examining whether the threat may be linked to similar incidents reported in Mumbai, Bengaluru, or other metro cities in the recent past, suggesting a potential larger conspiracy or coordinated cyber-attack aimed at causing public panic.

Schools Declare Holiday, Authorities Urge Calm

Many of the affected schools have declared a holiday for the day and are likely to continue online classes or resume normal operations after a full security audit.

In a statement, Delhi Police urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information on social media.

“We appeal to citizens not to panic. All safety protocols are in place. Schools will be fully sanitized and reopened only after complete security clearance,” said DCP (South District).

Public Reaction and Precautionary Measures

Parents, many of whom rushed to the schools in panic, demanded stricter cyber surveillance and better emergency response preparedness in educational institutions. School authorities, meanwhile, have been advised to review and strengthen their internal security protocols, including regular drills and cyber hygiene practices.

This is the second major bomb threat scare in Delhi schools in the past year, reviving concerns about increased vulnerability to cyber-driven terror threats.
