Visakhapatnam, August 7: Dr. P.J. Sudhakar, renowned for achieving a world record with 110 academic degrees, passed away on Wednesday night due to a heart attack at the age of 68. He had been undergoing treatment in Visakhapatnam following a brain stroke a week ago.
From Poverty to World Record
Born into abject poverty, Dr. Sudhakar overcame numerous hardships to achieve extraordinary success. Serving as the Additional Director General in the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and as the Director of Prasar Bharati’s Doordarshan, he left an indelible mark in Hyderabad and Delhi as an educator and social reformer.
Driven by an insatiable curiosity and passion for learning, Dr. Sudhakar earned 110 degrees, including 16 PhDs, diplomas, and certificate courses, securing the top position in the Telugu states. Following him are Karri Ram Reddy with 60 degrees, Yajneshwaran from Karnataka with 32 degrees, and Shrikant from Maharashtra with 25 degrees.

A Life Amid Books
Books were Dr. Sudhakar’s lifeline. He could often be found in his Hyderabad room, surrounded by old newspapers and immersed in reading. With a deep interest in Buddhism, he authored 10 books. From a time when he couldn’t join a job at Hindustan Company due to a lack of 25 paise, he rose to support countless underprivileged students by paying their fees, embodying an inspiring journey.
A Compassionate Soul
Despite his high achievements, Dr. Sudhakar never forgot his roots. He shared life lessons with friends, connected with everyone, and answered questions with a smile—except when asked about marriage, which he met with a chuckle. In his final days, settled in Visakhapatnam, he wished to donate his body to KG Hospital.
Tributes Pour In
His last rites are scheduled for Thursday. The loss of Dr. Sudhakar, whose inspiring life and kind heart touched many, is deeply felt. We pray for his soul to rest in peace and offer our heartfelt tributes.
