Dams Roar, Lights Glow — Nature Turns Rains into Power

Hyderabad, VGlobe News: Telangana is riding high on nature’s power! Relentless rains and swelling rivers have turned the state’s dams into mega powerhouses, delivering record-breaking hydropower and saving a jaw-dropping ₹600 crore in just 20 days.

🌧️ Floods Turn into Fortune

What’s usually seen as destructive floods has now turned into a blessing. Overflowing reservoirs are driving turbines at full throttle, producing over 45 million units of clean electricity daily, giving both homes and industries cheap, sustainable power.

⚡ 45 Million Units a Day

Telangana’s hydropower plants are running at one of their highest capacities in years. On average, the state is generating 45–49 million units of green energy every day, cutting down on expensive thermal power purchases.

🏞️ Srisailam & Nagarjuna Sagar Lead the Charge

The floodwaters rushing in from Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh have supercharged Telangana’s two biggest hydropower projects:

  • Srisailam (900 MW): Producing 16–18 million units daily
  • Nagarjuna Sagar (815 MW): Adding 17.26 million units daily
  • Upper Jurala (234 MW) & Lower Jurala (240 MW): Together contributing 9 million units daily

Combined, these projects are generating a record 49.39 million units per day.

📈 Historic Surge Since July 16

Hydropower generation skyrocketed from July 16, with daily output crossing the 40-million mark consistently. On July 29, Telangana hit an all-time high of 49.28 million units in a single day.

🔥 Record-Breaking July & August

This year is rewriting history:

  • April: 56.53 million units
  • May: 84.39 million units
  • June: 251.82 million units
  • July: 959.04 million units
  • August (till mid-month): Already 700 million+ units, pushing the seasonal total past 2,060 million units

Compared to just 350 million units between April–August last year, Telangana has achieved nearly six times more power this season.

💰 ₹600 Crore Saved in 20 Days

Hydropower costs less than ₹2 per unit, while thermal and other sources cost around ₹5 per unit. That means every hydel unit saves the state about ₹3, adding up to an incredible ₹600 crore in savings already.

🌍 Green Energy Revolution

With an installed hydel capacity of 2,440 MW, Telangana is proving that renewable energy can meet massive demands affordably. Under Genco’s management, nature’s fury has been converted into an economic and environmental boon.

🚀 Future Looks Brighter

As the rains continue and reservoirs stay full, Telangana’s hydropower generation is expected to set even more records. The state is not just powering itself—it’s showing the country how green energy can drive growth, sustainability, and prosperity.

🌊⚡ From floods to fortune — Telangana has turned rainwater into pure power!
