Red Fort Metro Blast: 8 Killed, Over a Dozen Injured in Car Explosion; High Alert in NCR, UP, and Mumbai
New Delhi, November 10, 2025 (IANS):
A powerful car explosion near Delhi’s historic Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening sent shockwaves across the national capital, killing at least eight people and injuring more than a dozen others. The blast, which occurred around 6:45 p.m. near Gate No. 1 of the busy station, triggered panic in the densely populated area and prompted authorities to declare a high alert across Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, and Mumbai.
Scene of Chaos Near Iconic Landmark
Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos as a loud explosion ripped through the parking zone adjacent to the Red Fort, followed by a series of smaller blasts and thick plumes of smoke. The explosion, which originated from a parked car, quickly set several nearby vehicles ablaze, engulfing at least eight cars in flames.
Seven fire tenders were rushed to the scene, and firefighters battled for over an hour before the blaze was brought under control. Delhi Fire Services officials confirmed that several charred bodies were recovered from the wreckage, while injured victims were immediately shifted to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital and nearby medical facilities.
Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha and senior officers of the Special Cell reached the site and cordoned off the area. Forensic experts were seen combing through debris as emergency teams worked under floodlights late into the night.
PM Modi, HM Amit Shah Take Stock; NIA Team Deployed
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took serious note of the situation and held a detailed conversation with Union Home Minister Amit Shah soon after the explosion. According to sources, Shah briefed Intelligence Bureau (IB) chief Tapan Deka and directed National Investigation Agency (NIA) Director General Sadanand Vasant Date to dispatch a specialized team to the spot for an immediate probe.
The NIA and Delhi Police’s Special Cell have taken over the investigation to ascertain whether the blast was accidental or the result of a terror plot. Senior intelligence and forensic officials are jointly inspecting evidence collected from the site, including vehicle fragments, metal residues, and traces of explosives.
Terror Angle Under Scanner Amid J&K Module Bust
Investigators are not ruling out the possibility of a terror link, especially since the explosion comes just hours after the Jammu and Kashmir Police busted a major inter-state terror module in Faridabad, barely 30 km from Delhi. The module, linked to Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind, had allegedly been planning large-scale attacks in northern India.
The Faridabad operation led to the arrest of seven suspects and the seizure of over 2,900 kg of explosives, assault rifles, pistols, electronic timers, and other materials. Police sources revealed that the module was deeply involved in radicalisation, fundraising, and logistics for militant operations across the National Capital Region.
Authorities are examining whether any of the arrested individuals had connections to the vehicle used in the Red Fort blast. Investigators are also probing CCTV footage from nearby metro stations, roads, and markets to trace movements in the area prior to the explosion.
Nationwide Security Tightened
Following the incident, the Ministry of Home Affairs directed heightened security measures at all metro stations, railway terminals, and airports across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra. The Delhi Police issued an advisory asking citizens to remain vigilant and avoid spreading unverified information on social media.
Traffic movement around Chandni Chowk, Red Fort, and adjoining localities has been restricted, with several routes diverted to facilitate investigation and rescue operations.
Leaders Express Grief, Appeal for Calm
Political leaders from across the spectrum expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives.
Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi described the incident as “extremely heartbreaking”, extending condolences to the victims’ families and wishing speedy recovery to the injured.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee termed the blast “deeply disturbing” and offered solidarity with the affected families.
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra prayed for peace for the departed souls, while Union Minister Ramdas Athawale appealed to the public not to indulge in speculation and to await official updates from investigating agencies.
Bihar’s political leader Mukesh Sahani also expressed grief, calling it a “horrific tragedy that has shaken the nation.”
Probe Underway, Nation on Edge
As night fell, forensic teams continued to collect samples from the blast site, including remnants of the vehicle chassis and suspected chemical traces. Preliminary findings are expected to be shared with the Home Ministry within 24 hours.
The explosion—occurring barely a day before the second phase of the Bihar Assembly elections—has raised nationwide security concerns. Intelligence agencies have been instructed to remain on alert for potential coordinated threats.
Authorities confirmed that the area around the Red Fort Metro Station remains sealed as investigations continue. “The situation is under control, and there is no need to panic. All angles are being thoroughly examined,” a senior Delhi Police official told IANS.
As the nation awaits answers, the incident marks one of the most serious security challenges faced by Delhi in recent years—reviving painful memories of past terror attacks in the capital.
