MCRHRD Institute Hosts Career Counselling Session for 160 Civil Service Aspirants; Officer Trainees Take Lead in Social Outreach

Hyderabad: In a significant step towards strengthening its social outreach initiatives, the Dr. MCR Human Resource Development Institute (MCRHRDI), which routinely conducts capacity-building programmes for freshly recruited and in-service officers, organised an extensive career counselling session for civil service aspirants enrolled in the SC/ST Academies of the Social Welfare Department.

The initiative was undertaken by the Social Services Activities Club of the Officer Trainees, following the advice of Smt. Santikumari, IAS, Director General, MCRHRDI. As part of the ongoing 10-week Special Foundation Course, 203 Officer Trainees of various All India Services, including IPS, IFS, IES and other central services, are currently undergoing training at the Institute.

Experiential Learning Meets Social Commitment

The Institute, known for exposing Officer Trainees to experiential learning through visits to socially significant institutions such as the Mental Health Institute and Cherlapalli Central Prison, has now extended this approach to community-oriented service. The counselling programme was conceived to sensitise the trainees to the challenges faced by aspirants from underprivileged backgrounds and to give them an opportunity to contribute meaningfully.

160 Aspirants Attend One-to-One Mentorship

A total of 160 civil service aspirants visited the MCRHRDI campus, where around 30 Officer Trainees interacted with them in dedicated one-on-one mentorship sessions. The guidance covered a comprehensive range of areas considered crucial for cracking the UPSC Civil Services Examination.

The mentoring included:

  • Selection and mastery of optional subjects
  • Preliminary examination strategies and smart study planning
  • Mains answer writing skills and structuring
  • Approaches to handling essay papers, particularly philosophical and abstract themes
  • Preparation for the Ethics (GS Paper IV) paper, including case study handling
  • Stress management during the preparation cycle
  • Tips for maintaining sustained motivation over long preparation periods
  • Effective time management and presentation on examination day

The Officer Trainees also encouraged the aspirants to stay connected with them for ongoing guidance and support.

Aspirants Express Gratitude

The aspirants expressed deep appreciation for the initiative, stating that the personalised guidance from young professionals currently in the system gave them clarity and renewed confidence. Many described the interaction as “inspiring,” and noted that such mentorship opportunities are rare and extremely valuable.

Institute Commends Trainees’ Initiative

MCRHRDI, in an official communication, commended the Officer Trainees for their social commitment and proactive approach in organising the event. The Institute emphasised that such initiatives not only benefit the aspirants but also contribute significantly to shaping sensitive, empathetic and socially responsible public administrators.
