New Delhi, June 20: In a significant milestone ahead of the 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026, the Ministry of AYUSH has announced that registrations on the Yoga Sangam Portal have surpassed six lakh, showcasing widespread participation from institutions and communities across the country.
According to the Ministry of AYUSH, the achievement reflects growing enthusiasm for the Yoga Sangam initiative, a flagship programme under which organisations nationwide will conduct synchronised yoga sessions based on the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) on June 21. The initiative aims to connect participants across India in a collective celebration of health, wellness and harmony.
The ministry described the overwhelming response as evidence of unprecedented public engagement, with registered organisations expected to mobilise participants at their respective venues and contribute to a nationwide movement promoting physical and mental well-being.
Yoga Sangam has emerged as one of the key pillars of International Day of Yoga 2026, enabling institutions, schools, government bodies, NGOs and private organisations to organise yoga sessions locally while remaining connected to a larger national programme. The Yoga Sangam Portal serves as the digital platform for registration, coordination and participation tracking.
The initiative has successfully reached all States and Union Territories, covering 778 districts across India. Official data reveals that more than 3.22 lakh government institutions have registered on the portal. Nearly two lakh educational institutions have also signed up, along with over 16,000 private organisations, more than 5,000 non-governmental organisations and around 44,000 entities from various other categories.
Among the states, West Bengal has recorded the highest participation with over 2.76 lakh registered organisations, followed by Rajasthan with nearly 1.50 lakh registrations. Strong participation has also been reported from Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Odisha and Chhattisgarh.
The Ministry of AYUSH has urged more organisations and community groups to register on the Yoga Sangam Portal and become part of the nationwide celebration. The registration process involves submitting organisational details, verifying credentials, entering venue information and obtaining a participation reference number.
This year’s International Day of Yoga is being observed under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” highlighting yoga’s role in promoting healthier, more active and fulfilling lives across all age groups.
The ministry stated that the rising number of registrations reflects the spirit of Jan Bhagidari (people’s participation) and India’s collective commitment to transforming yoga from a global movement into a community-driven celebration of health and wellness.
With registrations continuing to rise, millions of people are expected to participate in synchronised yoga sessions across the country on June 21, making International Day of Yoga 2026 one of the largest public wellness events in the world.
