Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Sunday congratulated the artists, filmmakers and technicians of the Tamil film industry for securing 10 honours at the 72nd National Film Awards, describing the achievement as a proud moment for the state and a testament to the industry’s creative excellence.
In a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office, Vijay said the impressive performance of Tamil cinema at this year’s National Film Awards reflected the talent, dedication and innovation of its filmmakers, actors and technical experts, who have consistently raised the standards of Indian cinema.
The 72nd National Film Awards, announced in New Delhi on Saturday night, honoured films released in 2024. Tamil cinema emerged as one of the biggest winners, receiving recognition across major categories, including Best Tamil Feature Film, Best Director, acting, editing, background music, stunt choreography, sound and audiography.
Vijay extended special congratulations to actor-director Dhanush, whose directorial venture Raayan won the Best Tamil Feature Film award. He also praised Dhanush for earning a Special Mention for Best Actor for his performance in Captain Miller, calling it another milestone in the actor’s celebrated career.
The Chief Minister also applauded the team behind Amaran, one of the most awarded Tamil films this year. Director Rajkumar Periasamy won the Best Director award, editor R. Kalaivanan received the Best Editing honour, while composer G. V. Prakash Kumar was recognised for Best Background Music, highlighting the film’s artistic and technical excellence.
Congratulating the makers of Maharaja, Vijay noted that stunt choreographer Anal Arasu won the Best Stunt Choreography award, while actor Sachana Namidass was honoured as Best Supporting Actress for her performance in the film.
Among the other award recipients from Tamil Nadu, Suren G. received a Special Mention in Audiography for Meiyazhagan, while T. S. Hariharasudhan won the National Award for Best Sound Design for the short film Blue, showcasing the state’s growing strength in technical filmmaking.
Describing the awards as a tribute to the creativity, hard work and commitment of the Tamil film fraternity, Chief Minister Vijay said the recognition would inspire a new generation of filmmakers and artists to strive for excellence. He expressed confidence that Tamil cinema would continue to achieve greater success and bring national and international recognition to the state in the years to come.
