NEW DELHI, October 11, 2026: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke on Sunday said he would return to his hometown in Maharashtra to attend his grandmother’s last rites, hours after being released by a Delhi court following preventive detention.
Dipke, who was detained along with CJP co-conveners Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, asserted that the party would continue its political activities and would not be intimidated.
In a post on X, Dipke said he was heading to his village to be with his family during the period of grief. He also announced that Das and Ranka would address a press conference in Delhi.
“The CJP will neither back down nor be intimidated. October 10 will go down as the beginning of the end of this dictatorship,” Dipke said in his post.
Delhi Police Says Family Was Informed About Grandmother’s Death
The development came amid a dispute over whether Dipke had been informed about his grandmother’s death while he was in detention.
Delhi Police rejected claims made by Dipke’s mother that he had not been informed of the death. In a post on X, the police said the information had been conveyed to him promptly and sensitively. They also said he had been informed of the funeral schedule and offered assistance to travel to his hometown on humanitarian grounds, which he reportedly declined at the time.
Dipke subsequently announced that he was heading home to attend the last rites.
CJP Leaders Released After Preventive Detention
According to Delhi Police, Dipke, Das and Ranka were placed under preventive arrest on October 10, 2026, under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
The three leaders were produced before the Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) court at Delhi Cantonment on October 11.
Police said the court ordered their release after a surety bond of ₹50,000 was furnished, subject to maintaining peace and good behaviour for one year. The leaders were subsequently released.
CJP’s legal affairs head, Ratna Singh, had earlier confirmed the leaders’ release.
Detention Linked to Planned Protest Against Election Commission
The three CJP leaders were detained at Indira Gandhi International Airport on Saturday after arriving in Delhi to participate in a planned protest against the Election Commission of India (ECI).
The demonstration was intended to raise allegations of irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and objections to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The party’s proposed protest and the subsequent detention triggered a political controversy, with CJP leaders maintaining that they would continue to raise their concerns.
With Dipke returning to Maharashtra and his colleagues preparing to address the media in Delhi, further developments are expected regarding the party’s protest plans and its allegations against the Election Commission.
